Are you new just visiting our website? It call all be a bit overwhelming we know. The Old Front Porch was founded on the idea that our lives are all encompassing and best shared with friends! Here are 10 things we recommend in order for you to get the most out of the Porch. 1) Read Up. The articles on the Porch are organized into four main categories: Houseblessing: Homemaking tasks take on a different role when we realize that we are blessing our home and those that live in it each time we cook, clean, decorate, organize, or handle the bills. This section is for all things home. Creating: In each of us is a spark that longs to create. But do you allow that spark to create a fire? This section is for our creative outlets. Some of our major outlets are writing, scrapbooking, and photography, but you'll find a variety of other creative ideas as well. Connecting: Few things are more precious than the people in our lives, the people we connect with. This section contains articles about connecting with friends, family, our family history, and ourselves. Believing: God is in everything we do, in our moments, and in our thoughts. This section is dedicated our Christian faith and making it stronger. 2) Check out the Community. You'll see the link just to the right of the four main headings we just discussed. We grow our friendships and tremendous conversations in our forums. We discuss things such as products, chores, scrapbook supplies, inspirations, tips, and our daily lives. You'll also find a gallery, chat room, and member blogs. The Forums and Gallery are organized in the same way as our website: Houseblessing, Creating, Connecting, and Believing. Check out the sections that interest you. 3) Register Join the Old Front Porch. It's free! You'll be able to access more features, post in the forums, receive our newsletter and more! 4) Introduce Yourself Once you register, take some time to introduce yourself in the Welcome and Introductions area of the forums. We want to get to know you! You can also read about our other members in this forum. 5) Don't Get Overwhelmed There's a lot here!!!! Take it a little at a time. Just jump in! You don't have to go through everything before you get involved. It's likely that not every area here on the Porch will interest you either. That's ok. We hope there's still plenty here for you. 6) Conversations on the Porch This thread really helps you to get to know everyone. We've built strong friendships with each other by discussing our daily lives. Trust us, if you just jump in and tell us what's going on today, you'll get to know us. I can tell you right now, don't feel like you need to read all the posts in the current thread or stay caught up. You can find the current thread in the Friends: The Porch Swing area. 7) Get in the other conversations Feel free to reply with your thoughts and ideas to posts in the forums. Share your experience or inexperience, your tips or your questions. 8) Post your Own Threads Create your own new posts in the forums. Once you get to reading and posting, your bound to think of things to discuss. I'll be driving down the road, in a store, cooking, or blow drying my hair, when I start to wonder about something- whether it's a question or just want to know what others think. And then there are times I find new things and want to share with everyone. You'll find it happening to you too! 9) Getting Involved on the Website Check out and get involved with the many features on website. Under the section "More" you'll find a prayer center where you can share prayer requests or pray for others. A section for links or additional articles from other sources (Syndicated Feeds) related to Porch Interests. You can see our newsletters or learn more about us. And, there are downloads and a classroom coming. You can also submit articles (Houseblessing, Creating, Connecting, Believing) that you want to write, links, recipes, or news to be included here on the porch. You'll find these options in your left hand User Menu on the website. You can help us grow! 10) Enjoy! This website is for you! It's the members that make this website what it is today! So, be inspired, get involved, and have fun! |
